A personal AI that lives at your house

This is PuffPAI.

It runs the house, keeps the calendar, and keeps what it knows about you in the house.

An AI companion with its own name, its own agent team, and its own memory. The model, the memory and the vault sit on a small computer you own. You buy it, you own it. No subscriptions ever.

Puff, the PuffPAI cloud, smiling
hallway unit · awake

Good evening, Operator. PuffPAI is awake. Everything you see runs on the box in your hallway.

What's tomorrow look like?

Two things: dentist at 9:40 and Mark's run at 6. The shed camera is still recording.

Private, staying on your device Answered from your vault

What's a Puff?

Four things, and none of them live in a data center.

01

A name

You name it at first boot. Then it introduces itself back, using the name you picked.

02

An agent team

Behind the friendly face is an agent team: the team of agents that builds your agents, and runs them.

03

A memory

It remembers your household because the memory sits on your shelf, next to the router.

04

A toolbox

Personas, voices, faces and new abilities snap in. Customizing it is the point, not a premium tier.

One base model.
Your build.

PuffPAI is one base model that fits itself to your hardware. From it, you make a build: the bot you actually live with.

THE BASE

It keeps the contracts

The three zones, the vault, the consent gate, zero telemetry. Every build inherits them, and no build can weaken them.

TWO WAYS IN

Build yours, or grab ours

Set it up on your own machine, guided step by step, or replicate the one we run. Both paths end the same way: you name it, and it introduces itself back.

YOUR HARDWARE

It sizes itself to your machine

Big box or a laptop, the setup checks what you have and fits the model choices to it. No fixed minimum for the base.

One base.
A family of bots.

Each bot is a subject-matter expert: its own knowledge, tools, agents and abilities, all on the same base. HomeBot is here now. ReBot is next. The rest are the bots we want to build after that.

Not ready to wait for a whole bot? Its knowledge pack can ride along on one you already run. The self-reliance pack already ships inside HomeBot.

HomeBot

HERE NOW

the household companion

Runs the house day to day: calendar, smart home, media, documents. It carries the self-reliance library too, so water, power, food and repairs are already on the shelf. This is the one in the beta.

ReBot

NEXT

self-reliance and quiet defense

Preparedness and personal counter-surveillance, as a bot of its own: the knowledge, the tools and the agents for staying ready and staying private. Its pack already rides inside HomeBot. The full bot is what we are building next.

MedGuard

ROADMAP

medical knowledge and eldercare

Medications, interactions and plain-language explanations. Never diagnoses, always informs.

TerraBot

ROADMAP

agriculture and homesteading

Soil, seasons, livestock and the preserving math, for the land you actually have.

LedgerMind

ROADMAP

financial literacy

Budgets, debt and the fine print, worked through without your numbers leaving the house.

CivicShield

ROADMAP

legal and civil rights

Your rights, your leases and your local process, explained before you need a lawyer.

ForgeBot

ROADMAP

engineering and maker

Tolerances, wiring, firmware and the part number you cannot find at 11pm.

Ideas, not promises. The order will follow what people actually need.

Follow the build on Bluesky

Real screenshots, personal details blurred, because that's the point. This is the early build, warts included.

The library. Your documents and thousands of reference books, indexed on the box.

The agent team, at work. You can see which agent took the question and what it touched.

How it keeps
your stuff yours

Three zones. Your private things, the shared brain, and the one lane that touches the outside world. Everything it learns is about your household, not a demographic it filed you under.

These three zones are the contracts every build keeps. It picks the zone for every request. You never have to.

ZONE 1 · LOCKED

Personal
Vault

Your files, notes, camera footage and voice. Anything personal is classified and labeled the moment it arrives, filed into the vault, and wiped from working memory.

  1. 01classified and labeled on arrival
  2. 02filed to the vault, wiped from memory
  3. 03encrypted at rest
  4. 04PIN or fingerprint to open

Even the AI has to ask you. The labels are yours to rename or delete.

ZONE 2 · THE WORKING BRAIN

General Knowledge

The model, its tool calls, the agent team, and a curated offline library of publicly available reference material.

Documents you load are labeled and ingested automatically, so your manuals sit on the same shelf as the reference books. The longer you use it, the more the shelf looks like your house.

ZONE 3 · THE ONE LANE OUT

Outside Bridge

The internet lane and the house guard, in one place. Weather, traffic and music come in with your identity stripped off the request.

Going the other way it sees every device on the network and manages them, and when you want it to, it acts as a firewall that shuts down the gadgets that tattle. Your TV does not need to report your evening to anyone.

every connection, switchable

Zero telemetry. Zero phone-home. PuffPAI uses the internet like a utility (weather, music, radio) without reporting you back to anyone. Every outside connection is listed in plain sight and can be switched off. And when the internet goes down, PuffPAI keeps working.

Why we built it

We love security and privacy. We believe they are the foundation of a free nation.

Everyone is building so much cool stuff right now. We wanted a foundation where you can plug any of it in (models, voices, personas, new abilities) and end up with an AI that is personalized, private, and actually yours. Plug and play. Customize everything.

Cloud assistants have a track record of changing the deal after you have bought the box. This one cannot, because the deal is printed on the box.

Who it's for

The homesteader, forty minutes past pavement

The satellite link drops most afternoons. The library, the vault and the agent team don't notice.

The smart-home family

Lights, locks, cameras and one Puff watching the network. The kids' favorite feature is the mic-kill switch.

Mom, staying in her own house

Medication reminders in a voice she likes, and a record of her week that no insurer ever sees.

The house two miles from the coast

Runs all day on solar plus battery. When the tower is down, it still knows where the insurance papers are.

Get started

01

Plug it in

Power and network. One shelf, next to the router.

02

It says hello first

No account, no app store, no email address required.

03

It discovers your home

Every device on the network, found and listed for you to approve.

04

You name it, and it introduces itself back.

The demo unit on this page goes by PuffPAI. Yours will not. From then on the memory it builds is about your house, and it stays there.

Puff, the PuffPAI cloud, waving

Those four steps describe HomeBot as a sealed appliance, and that is where this is going. Today it is software you install on your own machine, and the beta below is how you get it.

Have the hardware? Come break things with us.

The beta is HomeBot as software, installed on one machine you already own. Two things get you in: hardware that clears the bar below, and a GitHub account, since that's how access ships.

You do not need our hardware. You do not need two machines. A Windows laptop with a decent graphics card makes a perfectly good HomeBot.

WHAT IT TAKES ยท ONE MACHINE

memory
The one that decides everything. The model has to fit in RAM, and 32 GB is where we work comfortably. Less still runs: the installer measures your machine and fits the model to it.
graphics
An NVIDIA GPU with 8 GB of VRAM is what we build against. Jetson boards pool memory with the CPU instead, and either shape is fine.
disk
A fast NVMe with room to spare. Models run tens of gigabytes each.
audio
A mic and a speaker, if you want voice.
home
A Home Assistant instance, if you want smart home control.

We have measured two machines: the RTX 2000 Ada laptop we use daily, and the Jetson AGX Orin 64 GB our HomeBot is built on. Neither is a requirement; anything that clears the bar above works. Everything else is untested, so we would rather hear what you have than guess at numbers we have not run.

No payment, no spam, and we never sell the list. That's the whole point. Privacy.

Cypher Sisters

Two sisters building the AI we wanted to live with.

We are not anti-technology. We are pro-people. The question was never whether AI should exist. It is who it serves.

The home build

One machine does the thinking: the appliance in time, your own computer today. Everything else is optional wiring.

THE MACHINE YOU RUN IT ON · brain · memory · vault

The model runs here, the memory lives here, the vault is encrypted here.

MEDIA STORAGE

Your library and camera footage, on drives you can hold.

HOME ASSISTANT

Lights, locks and sensors. Puff talks to it over your own network.

OPNSENSE ROUTER

The firewall lane. In the release build.

INTERNET · weather, music, radio. One lane, listed, switchable.
